Ky projekt kërkimor i sponsorizuar nga Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (“CEPF”), i zbatuar nga Shoqata Biologët e Shqipërisë, synon të zhvillojë një studim të plotë mbi statusin e popullatave të dy llojeve të gaforreve globalisht të kërcënuara, Astacus astacus dhe Austropotamobius torrentium në tre Zona Kyçe të Biodiversitetit në Shqipëri (KBA: ALB08 – Liqenet e Prespës; ALB09 – Liqeni i Ohrit; ALB19 – Parku Kombëtar Shebenik-Jabllanicë). Aktivitetet e monitorimit do të përfshijnë liqenet e Prespës, Ohrit si dhe dy tributarë të lumit Shkumbin Rapuni dhe Qarrishta si pjesë këta e Parkut Kombëtar Shebenik-Jabllanicë.
Projekti ka në fokusin e tij sigurimin e informacionit mbi praninë/mungesën, përhapjen e llojeve, vlerësimin e parametrave ekologjik si dhe vlerësimin e faktorëve riskues për këto specie të gaforreve. Monitorimi do të kryhet me një frekuencë të lartë monitorimi në të të gjitha stacionet pë një periudhë një vjecare. Rezultatet e tij do të ofrojnë një informacion të plotë të gjendjes së tyre në trupat ujorë në studim. Kjo nismë shënon hapin fillestar drejt ruajtjes së këtyre specieve.

Population status assessment of the globally threatened crayfish
Astacus astacus and Austropotamobius torrentium in the lakes of Prespa,
Ohrid and rivers of the Shebenik – Jabllanice National Park, Albania

This research project, sponsored by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), aims to conduct a comprehensive monitoring study on the populations of two globally threatened crayfish species, Astacus astacus and Austropotamobius torrentium, within three Key Biodiversity Areas in Albania (KBA: ALB08 – Lakes of Prespes; ALB09 – Lake Ohrid; ALB19 – Shebenik National Park – Jabllanice). Additionally, it is a part of two Catchment Management Zones (CMZ: Lake Ohrid Catchment, Prespa Lake Catchment). The monitoring activities will encompass the lakes of Prespa and Ohrid, as well as the tributaries of the Shkumbini River originating from the Shebenik-Jabllanice National Park.
The primary objectives include gathering information on the presence, population parameters, distribution, and assessment of threats for these crayfish species. This initiative marks the initial step towards the conservation of these species. Sampling will be conducted with a high-frequency approach at all monitoring stations.
The comprehensive results derived from this study will offer a clear overview of the ecological and biological status of the two globally threatened crayfish species in the catchment area of the Southeastern Albania region. Furthermore, it will identify factors directly impacting their populations.
